Pound for pound, a good hand mixer is perhaps the most laborsaving kitchen device. While my grandmother relied on arm strength and force of will to beat a stiff dough or to mash potatoes, a light and easily maneuvered hand mixer saves time and muscles. This one from KitchenAid features seven-speed digital touch control for precision mixing, and an electronic sensor that will adjust the power as you go, so you maintain a steady mixing speed. If you’re beating a delicate…

You know there are times when you just don’t want to haul out the big mixer, right? Well, being the holiday hostess for my large extended family, my Irish brothers love their mashed potatoes. When I have a holiday dinner and my countertops are loaded with lots of other wonderful holiday dinner foods waiting to be served, hauling out the big mixer is just not an option. Out comes this handy little KitchenAid hand mixer! In a jiffy, this little powerhouse mashes the potatoes and then away it goes so dinner can proceed as needed. It’s a really cool tool and I’m glad to have it at times like that. Also, I have pulled it out to mix pancake batter, sometimes cake batter, and other easy to mix items. It’s easy to wipe down and the beaters pop right off to go into your dishwasher. Easy clean, easy to use, easy storage — what more could you want?

Great while it lasted
This was a very good appliance, easy to maneuver, efficient, fairly quiet, easy to clean, BUT after about 6 months of light use (not much more than once or twice a week) and…

I have baked for nearly 30 of my 41 years, and I have used a lot of hand mixers. This one by KitchenAid is a great partner to my KitchenAid stand mixer. I have used it for everything from cookie dough, to cream, to mashed (okay, whippped) potatoes. It has never failed me, I find it powerful enough for my purposes, and one thing that has not been mentioned in the other reviews is that this mixer is relatively quiet. Not silent, but quiet. For jobs that are really too small for the K45, this is ideal. Nicely balanced, easy to use. In short, a winner.

NOTE THE PICTURE CAREFULLY
A nice mixer. It’s quiet. But … Lefties Beware! This is a right-handed mixer. The cord is on the right side.

KitchenAid hand mixer
Most of us don’t really need a large stand mixer and this little number will take care of day to day needs. It is quiet and powerful–really does a nice job.

I have the 5 speed version of the KA hand mixer (same motor, same speed range, just fewer speed stops and you save up to 30$). It works very well for batters and doughs, without bogging down and without whining.
The only limitation of the KA handhelds is that their maximum speed is on the slow side. Whipped cream and egg whites don’t build up as fast or firmly as you sometimes need (it is hard to get firm, dry peaks in egg whites like for meringue).
While I have the 5qt KA stand mixer (and love it!), I was disappointed in the slowness of the hand mixer. Until I got the wire whisk attachment (about 16$ from appliance parts supplier). This made all the difference. I can now whip a half pint of cream and 2 egg whites in under a minute!
Do yourself a favor: save money by buying the 5 speed model and spend only about half of the money you saved on the wire (balloon) whisk attachment. You’ll get better performance for less money.
I gave this (and it’s twin models) 4 stars. It would be a 5 if the whisk attachment (which is needed) were included.

So Easy
This is one powerful little mixer and it can easily out perform all the other hand mixers I have used. I love the on/off button as well as a seperate speed button.

Our Kitchen-Aid 450W counter-top mixer is big and bulky so we decided to pick up this hand-mixer to get the job done quicker.

Great hand mixer
Excellent mixer with overall power to mix even heavier doughs– will not replace a stand mixer–but is as good as hand mixer on the market.

It is a good mixer. It feels good in your hand and has plenty of power. Cleanup is also very easy.

Piece of Junk!
It pains me to say this is a piece of KA junk. It has very poor power ability. After owning it for about 6 months & not using it for anything more strenuous than whipping cream…
